The impression created at first sight in speaking to the audience has got much influence on catching their attention. Public speaking is about talking to a larger audience on a particular subject. After the speaker is fully prepared to deliver, it is advisable to know the composition of people seated to listen to him/her. Here, the physical appearance of the speaker matters a lot because it equally carries a message to the audience.

The following are some factors to consider on physical appearance:

Outfit: The dress worn should fit the kind of programme or occasion. For example: Suit is recommended for official programmes. Also, the facial make-up should be moderately done. This is because the audience may concentrate more on it if it is overdone and this can distract information flow. Considering the footwear, it should be one which can facilitate easy movement if possible and that which matches the dress worn.

Hair: Females should have a simple hair do, that which looks good on their faces and matches the outfit. Males on the other hand should have their hair cut down and their beard trimmed.


Blending these two factors appropriately calls for a smart, perfect, attractive and eloquent physical appearance when speaking to the audience.
